About: I had to go back and edit this entry, because I can't account of what I was thinking when I wrote: "This is, somewhat surprisingly, a Welsh-made chocolate. I'm not sure why the location where the chocolate is made should matter. Perhaps it's because ones peers define the standards one aspires to, and so if you're in (bloody) Belgium, surrounded by chocolate makers of the highest caliber, you aspire and must achieve world-class chocolating. But on the other hand, in a world market, you can be in the corner of Glynarthen in West Wales near Cardigan and still create world class chocolate. Chocolate Fusion didn't do that, but you know.. you could. "
This chocolate is made in California (from what I pretty much am sure is melted European chocolate and added flavorings). They make a bunch-o flavors, and some are pretty good.
Flavor: I always thought that coffee plus chocolate was an easy trick - something that would inevitably be good because how can you go wrong ? It's coffee and chocolate, for fuck's sake! But Chocolate Fusion managed to really kill the coffee flavor in this bar, and it's barely discernible. That said, the bar itself is quite alright and has a good chocolate flavor. The coffee flavor is subtle and not overwhelming. So while it may not be what you expect, it's a pleasant, full, solid flavor that doesn't have anything wrong with it. It's sweet like a 72% bar would be, but pleasant.
Texture: Initially a bit waxy, but not brittle and ultimately it has a creamy finish that leaves you wanting more. So as you eat it, you think: "whoa, waxy.. wait.. good.. giv me me another". Rinse. Repeat.
My rating: 5.1 on the scale below. Had to give it just above a 5, because I'd definitely get it again, but I wouldn't kill for it.
Rating Value | Meaning |
---|---|
1 | Really bad chocolate. There's something just really really wrong here in almost every imaginable respect. |
2 | A bar with this rating has at least two drawbacks. |
3 | A bar where something is starting to get seriously wrong.... for example, really weak flavor with an otherwise acceptable texture. |
4 | This bar is below average, but just slightly. Mostly it's not worth eating again. Something isn't quite up to par, for example a poor texture but fine flavor. |
5 | This is an average good bar that's worth eating. There's nothing really wrong with it, but also nothing particularly spectacular. Or, perhaps it has a good characteristic that's evenly counter-weighted by something weak. |
6 | A solidly good bar with one characteristic that's above par, for example a great texture. |
7 | An solidly good chocolate that has two above par characteristics, but nothing mind-blowing. Good, above average flavor, but nothing to die for. |
8 | An excellent bar with no weaknesses and at least one characteristic that's super. |
9 | An awesome bar to die for with amazing texture and flavor. |
10 | You have been touched by God. |
